Restaurants & Carryout    |    Nationwide Shipping

For the benefit of first time visitors, there are a few points that will make internet shopping with Jack Stack more effective. Take a few seconds to absorb these orientation notes.  They should help you get what you need faster and at less cost. Whether you're sending a special gift to special folks, or preparing an event at your own place, we want to exceed your expectations. Help us.

1.) Start by choosing a “meal package” containing approximately the quantity and variety of barbecue you want.  For several reasons, meal packages are our base order units.  Based on experience and testing, they have been created and refined to satisfy the needs of large numbers of customers.

2.) Choose “add-ons” to fine-tune the quantity and variety of your order. Once you've chosen a BBQ meal package you will have the opportunity to choose the Add-On items displayed on the Shopping Cart page. The overhead costs of packing materials, labor, dry ice, etc. are covered in meal package pricing.  Add-ons are a la carte items designed to help you customize your meal package that we can offer at reduced prices since the meal package has “paid the bills.”  Add-ons cannot be purchased without a meal package.

3.) Your barbecue will be fully cooked, vacuum-sealed and shipped on dry ice. A simple, straightforward “Owner’s Manual” will describe in detail (with options for various types of heating) how to unpack, store, thaw, prepare and heat your barbecue. The process is easy and quick. The end result duplicates at your (or your guest’s) table the award-winning quality, flavor, and elegance you would find at our legendary Kansas City-area restaurants.

4.) You can adjust your arrival day to match an important date in the future. Place your order whenever you're ready.  We allow you to schedule a future arrival date up to one year from now, so place your order whenever you're ready. Tips to remember when scheduling a future arrival date: 1) We don't ship over the weekend when FedEx is closed for two straight days. 2) We begin shipping on Monday each week, and all packages are delivered before the weekend. 3) If your shipping charge is too high, it could be that you're not allowing enough time for standard ground delivery. Move your date back later in the same week, or have it delivered the week before if you're looking for a Monday or Tuesday arrival date. The food is frozen and will keep nicely in the freezer or fridge.

5.) If you have any questions at all, call us toll-free at (877) 419-7427 (M-F 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM Central; Saturdays 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM) for professional guidance.  Your call will be answered promptly. We will give you informed advice about any topic... how to shop our site, detailed product information, how to estimate quantities, shipping hints, etc.  We won’t subject you to a hard-sell... we’re not after your first order; we’re after your tenth order and more.  (Our customers tend to become long term regulars.)

Every Mouthful is Guaranteed.
We guarantee you're going to love every last mouthful of your Jack Stack hickory-roasted barbecue and side dishes. If you're not completely satisfied, just let us know and we'll refund every penny you paid for it. We appreciate your first order, but we’re really aiming for your twentieth order.

[] How much should I order per person?
Please remember these are simply suggested serving portions. One full slab of pork Ribs will feed 2 to 3 people. A pound of meat feeds 2 to 3. A quart of Hickory Pit Beans or Cheesy Corn Bake feeds 6 to 8. Crown Prime Beef Ribs feeds 1 to 3. Keep in mind that these are general guidelines. If in doubt, order just a little more than you estimate you'll need, just to be sure to have enough for a full meal. Our Jack Stack catering cohorts tell us, "Having leftovers is better than running out of food." Coming from folks that are right here in town, you sure don't want to run short halfway across the country from us. Call us at 1-877-419-7427 if you need assistance and our experienced staff will be more than happy to help in making suggestions.

[] How is the food prepared?
The BBQ we ship nationwide is prepared the same as our BBQ served in our Kansas City-area restaurants. Prepared in USDA-monitored facilities in Missouri by Jack Stack Pit Master Tim Keegan and his highly trained staff. All meat items are fully-cooked and vacuum-sealed during precise times in the cooling period to ensure peak moistness. The side dishes arrive in a microwavable-quart container. We include an Owner's Manual that details three ways to warm the food. If we can be of further service to you, we have experienced staff available if you would like to discover in greater detail just how we're able to transform brisket and ribs into what many call "The First Taste of Kansas City" and are consistently voted KC's best barbecue. We take great pride in being honored as such, because in these parts, that's really saying something.

[] How is the food delivered?
The food is packaged in a heavy reusable cooler which goes inside of an attractive Jack Stack outer box. Dry ice is included in the package to assure the food arrives frozen and in perfect condition. The standard delivery method is FedEx Ground, which delivers within three days from Kansas City. Out of necessity, Alaska and Hawaii require 2-Day Express Shipping method.

[] What time of day is the food delivered?
Only packages shipped Priority Overnight will arrive before 10:30am. All other packages will not have a time-specific delivery. If you're planning your party around the delivery time, the success of your party is in jeopardy. We highly suggest that you schedule your BBQ to arrive a day or two before your event to allow for any unexpected transit delay and also for thawing. Our shipping calendar makes this very easy.

[] How long will the food last in the freezer?
Up to six months. You should not refreeze the product once it has thawed.

[] How long will the food last when thawed?
It takes 1-2 days for our product to thaw in the refrigerator, depending on the size of item. Whole briskets will take longer to thaw than a pound of burnt ends. It should be consumed within three days when thawed.

[] How do I prepare the BBQ?
Jack Stack includes an Owner's Manual with detailed instructions on how to reheat each product in each package. Directions are given for the Microwave, Grill & Conventional Oven. We recommended the Conventional Oven as the best method.

[] What is the difference between sauced and unsauced Pork Spare Ribs?
The Pork Spare Rib is the Classic Kansas City BBQ Rib. The Spare Rib’s bones range from 4 to 6 inches long with the slab weighing over 2 pounds. Both the sauced and unsauced ribs are barbecued with the same exact rubs in the same hickory wood-fired method. The sauced ribs are paired with our KC Original Sauce for those that like them wet. Click here for more information on our Pork Spare Ribs.

[] What exactly is a "Burnt End"?
Don't let the name fool you, there's nothing "burnt" about them. The name came about because when the meat is left in to barbecue for an extra amount of time, the outer surface, or bark, will take on a darker appearance than normal. Hence, the name Burnt Ends. They can be cubes of beef brisket, pork, ham, and our new Kobe Beef Burnt Ends, which are tender on the inside and lightly seared on the outside. Burnt Ends have always been a Kansas City favorite. Click here for information and to order our Burnt Ends.

[] Do you make your own sausage?
Our sausage is made in Kansas City’s Strawberry Hill District, and prepared in our distinctive style. We then barbecue the links "low and slow" over a hickory-wood fire, and then vacuum-seal them at the precise moment to guarantee peak moisture. These links are a sausage delicacy, and will arguably be the leanest sausage you've tasted in quite awhile. Click here for more information on our sausage.

[] Why does everyone rave about your Hickory Pit Beans?
It's no secret we have the areas, if not the country's, favorite BBQ beans. Shreds of Hickory Roasted Beef Brisket account for over 15% of our meaty bean side dish. Featured on the Food Network with Chef Bobby Flay in his BBQ with Bobby Flay Kansas City segment, and also the Smokin' Sides episode. Many people come into our Kansas City restaurants just from hearing about our Hickory Pit Beans. Just remember, there's nothing baked about these beans. Click here to order our famous beans.

[] I have never tasted anything like your Cheesy Corn Bake… Where did that originate?
This popular side dish is a family recipe that has been served at our Restaurants for years. It's a mixture of cheddar cheese, cream cheese, corn and diced ham. (The recipe is in our Recipe Section.)  Click here to order our Cheesy Corn Bake.

[] My order is a surprise gift. Do you contact my recipient?
Jack Stack will not contact your recipient, but we will need your gift recipients phone number, in case their local delivery driver needs assistance. It is your responsibility to make your recipient aware a perishable product will be arriving. You don't necessarily need to tell them Jack Stack Barbecue is coming, but at least make sure someone will be available to care for the perishable package on the day that it arrives. FedEx will leave the package if your recipient is unavailable to sign for the package. This is by design so that the perishables can be cared for by your recipient. Jack Stack Barbecue can not be held responsible for packages that have perished due to the fact the recipients weren't made aware of its scheduled arrival.

[] What is the difference between pork spare ribs and baby back ribs?
Pork spare ribs are the traditional slab of ribs. They come from the belly of the pig, behind the shoulder. They include 11 to 13 long bones. There is a covering of meat on top of the bones and between them. Baby back ribs, sometimes called loin ribs, are cut from the loin section. They are shorter and smaller than spare ribs. They have a covering of meat over the bones and also between them. Because they do come from the loin, they are leaner than spare ribs.

[] What exactly is a "Burnt End"?
Don't let the name fool you, there's nothing "burnt" about them. The name came about because when the meat is left to barbecue for an extra amount of time, the outer surface, or bark, will take on a darker appearance than normal. Hence, the name Burnt Ends. They can be cubes of beef brisket, ham, pork, or sausage, which are tender on the inside and lightly seared on the outside. Burnt Ends have always been a Kansas City favorite.

Our beans have been featured in numerous publications and shows, including the Food Network with Chef Bobby Flay in “BBQ with Bobby Flay”. Many people come to our Kansas City restaurants just from hearing about our Hickory Pit Beans. Just remember, there's nothing baked about these beans. They've truly been smoked in our old-fashioned, Hickory-fired, brick barbecue pits.
